Our founder was born and raised in Phuket and spent his career in IT — not tourism, not transport. The idea for IslandTransfer did not come from a business plan. It came from watching people he actually knows try to make a living driving.

A brother and a cousin drive vans in Phuket. A close friend drives a licensed taxi. Between them: decades of experience, spotless vehicles, and drivers who genuinely care whether you have a good trip. What they did not have was a way to be found online before a traveller lands — so guests were booking through big ride-hailing and travel apps instead, and the drivers were telling him the same thing: those platforms were taking somewhere around 25 to 35 percent of every fare.

That is the gap our founder could actually do something about. Building an online booking presence — a real website, clear pricing, something that shows up when a traveller searches — is exactly the kind of work most local drivers have no reason to know how to do themselves. It has nothing to do with how good a driver they are. It is just a different skill, and it happened to be his.

IslandTransfer is deliberately not trying to be the next big platform. Every driver is someone we personally know or personally vetted, holds a Thai public transport licence and drives a registered public-service vehicle. We publish fixed prices. We take a fair 10% — far less than the 25–35% our own drivers described from big platforms — so they keep what they earn and treat every guest like their reputation depends on it. Because with a network this size, it does.

For you as a traveller, that gap is exactly what turns into your benefit. These are not drivers who signed up for an app last week — they have spent years, in some cases their whole working lives, on these exact roads. They know which beach is calm when another has red flags up, which restaurant is actually good rather than which one just pays for placement, and how to get you where you are going without a detour. Quality and trust are not a slogan on this page: it is booking someone our founder would put his own family in a car with — because in most cases, he already has.
